American Airlines, American Eagle ‘Think Pink’ in October

Special Support for Komen during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Throughout the month of October, American Airlines, American Eagle and their employees, in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, will once again go Passionately Pink for the Cure® to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the goal to end breast cancer forever.

Customers flying with American and American Eagle October 1-15 will notice a change from the airlines’ usual

blue-and-red color scheme. During this period, employees and numerous airports across the nation will “go pink,” with gates decked out in pink and even many uniformed employees sporting special pink-ribbon scarves and ties. It’s all part of the second annual employees’ Passionately Pink for the Cure fundraising program. Airports in cities across the American system -- from London to Lubbock, Paris to Philadelphia and Tokyo to Newark -- will participate in the campaign. Customers can join in the fun and support their local American or American Eagle team by wearing pink when they travel, participating in gate activities, or by making a donation supporting a favorite AA team at www.passionatelypink.com. Simply click on “Find a Team,” then enter “American Airlines” in the “Search for a Team” box.

Additionally, this year will feature a“Rolling Pink-out,” with special activities planned around the routing of our eight aircraft that carry the iconic pink ribbon and Komen logo. These activities will culminate in a system-wide ”Pink-out day” on October 15, when customers around the world are invited to wear pink to show their support in the fight against breast cancer.

American will support the month-long observance in other ways, including special pink-themed menus at selected Admirals Clubs across the country, where 10 percent of the proceeds on sales of pink items will go to support breast cancer research.

Through the end of the year, American’s Miles for the Cure™ fundraising program will reward donors with double AAdvantage miles – 10 miles instead of five – for every dollar they contribute to Komen for the Cure, with a minimum $25 donation. For those not already an AAdvantage member, it’s easy to enroll online at AA.com/AAdvantage. Additionally, customers can give the gift of travel and support Komen at the same time by purchasing an American Airlines Gift Card. American will donate $5 to Komen for the Cure for every $50 of travel purchased via the gift card; just designate Komen as the beneficiary when purchasing a card.

Look, too, for American’s eight Komen-branded pink-ribbon planes in the coming weeks, as they make special appearances at various Race for the Cure® events worldwide – a reminder of the sobering statistic that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. If you’re participating in a local Race, American offers a 10 percent discount on any published fare to a local Race event across the globe. Details are available at aa.com/women.
